Cristiano Ronaldo has tried to get a move away from Manchester United this summer, but has not been successful so far.

That’s because the forward has not managed to find a club ready to push for him, while the Red Devils have refused to let him leave Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag has stressed publicly the 37-year-old is key to his plans at Manchester United this season.

The Portugal international has been linked to Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Atlético Madrid, Napoli and even a return to Sporting. Officials at Bayern and Atletic have publicly insisted they will not sign the former Real Madrid star.

Sporting have now become the latest club to publicly rule out a move for the Manchester United player in the summer window.

The Lions face SC Braga in their league opener on Sunday. In the pre-match press conference, Sporting manager Rúben Amorim was directly asked if he would like to have Ronaldo at his disposal.

Responding to that, Amorim said, as quoted by Mais Futebol: “He is a Manchester United player and I will not be commenting on possibilities that don’t exist. He is a Manchester United player and it looks like he will continue [there].”
