Takvim Gazetesi report Fenerbahçe want to loan Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen next season as they prepare for life without their captain Simon Kjaer.
The Turkish club are ready to sell Kjaer in the summer with a host of major European clubs showing an interest in the Denmark international, and Fenerbahçe want to replace him with his compatriot Christensen.
The Danish defender has spent last two seasons on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach and he’s impressed during his time with the German side. Takvim claim Fenerbahçe have already started negotiations with Chelsea with regards to signing Christensen and initial talks have been positive.
The 21-year-old has formed a decent defensive partnership with Kjaer in the national team, which has clearly impressed Fenerbahçe.
It’s currently unknown what Antonio Conte’s plans are for Christensen next season given the Chelsea manager’s defensive options.
Chelsea will have Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake competing for the centre back positions next season, which will make it difficult for the Dane.
However, it must be considered unlikely that Christensen would choose to leave Chelsea on loan again, and go to Fenerbahçe, given he’s been having such a good period in Germany.
