West Ham United are having a good run in the 2021/22 season so far, which sees them sit third in the table after defeating Liverpool on Sunday and progressing in the EFL Cup after overcoming both Manchester United and Manchester City in the previous rounds.

In the league, the Hammers have conceded 13 goals in 11 matches and one of the main reasons for that is the presence of Angelo Ogbonna in the defence.

The 33-year-old has started every Premier League tie for David Moyes’ side , but having played the full 90 minutes in the first 10 matches, he was forced off the pitch with an injury in the first half against the Reds.

Ogbonna’s current deal runs down at the end of the season, but the London club have plans to retain him beyond this term.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the Italy international is ‘close to renewing’ his contract with West Ham, which is a positive report for both the English club and their supporters

Although the website provides ‘news on the Ogbonna front’, they don’t specify as to how long the Hammers plan to extend the centre-back’s contract, but even if he does so by one season, it will allow fans and the club to rest easy for a while longer.
