Elias Sørensen needs to make the most of his loan move to Almere City, after failing to really impress during previous temporary spells at Blackpool and then Carlisle United.

Yet to make a competitive debut for the Magpies, a future with Steve Bruce’s side is looking very unlikely for the 22-year-old unless he can get an excellent season under his belt in the Netherlands.

Things had been looking like they were getting off to a good start, with two goals and an assist in five appearances for the Dutch second division team.

Then he picked up an Achilles injury and hasn’t featured since mid November.

Omroep Flevoland, local to Almere City, now report the Newcastle United owned player is expected to return to training next week, so shouldn’t be far away from making another appearance for his loan club.

Should he then be able to continuing finding the back of the net, things will start looking up for Sørensen, although a permanent sale looks likelier than Bruce counting on him.

The striker has a contract with Newcastle United until June 2022.
