Portuguese newspapers traditionally have ratings for all players featured in their league games. And when there’s an European match, they only have ratings for the Portuguese club, as they probably don’t pay much attention to the opposite side.
But there’s something special about Wolverhampton, and that’s the amount of Portuguese players the club have in the squad. That’s why Record changed their protocol a little and had a section for the Premier League club.
The ratings given for the match against Braga last night, from 1 to 5, were 3 for Rui Patrício, 2 for Ruben Neves, 3 for João Moutinho, 3 for Diogo Jota, 2 for Pedro Neto and 1 for Ruben Vinagre.
Record also highlighted some other players. They say Raul Jimenez ‘shined’ with a goal and an assist, while Adama Traore ‘did what he wanted’ against Braga’s defense. Matt Doherty is also praised for his participation in the second goal.
We expected a little more from O Jogo, who are a northern newspaper and give big coverage to Braga.
But even with a three-page spread, they practically ignored Wolves in their analysis, having only focused on the home team’s performance.
