When Everton’s negotiations to sign Rui Vitória came out in the English press yesterday, we were pretty sure the Portuguese media would have big articles about it on Tuesday.

But the truth is there aren’t front page stories, not even a full page inside about it. All they have are side stories with a column explaining what was reported.

That clearly shows the local media is not giving much attention to the rumour right now, maybe because they don’t believe it, or perhaps because they really don’t know what to say.

But there’s one newspaper saving the day, and that’s Record. They are the only one with exclusive information on the case, and, as a bonus, it’s quite interesting.

The newspaper claims there have been contacts from Everton, which have been made through an intermediary.

The Toffees would be considering signing Rui Vitória in January, having the manager as a third option, after being rejected by Watford’s Marco Silva and Borrussia Dortmund’s Thomas Tuchel.

A problem for Everton is that Vitória isn’t keen on leaving Benfica in the middle of the season, and club president Luis Filipe Vieira wouldn’t let it happen either.

So it sounds like this first approach wasn’t very succesful. But if The Mirror claimed that it was Vitória who was offered to Everton, would he really reject leaving in January? Those are two different point of view, and we should soon find out if this intermediary is on Everton or Vitória’s side.
