Sporting faced Liverpool in a friendly in New York City on Tuesday night, and due to the time zone, Portuguese newspapers couldn’t get their stories out until today.
This is the case with Jurgen Klopp’s quotes regarding Bruno Fernandes.
Now the interesting thing is that besides the manager’s public comments on the midfielder, the local media are also revealing what he told the Sporting captain when leaving the pitch.
There are two similar versions about it. One comes from Correio da Manhã, and says: “Congratulations for the great match. You’re a good player.”
The other one, brought by O Jogo, says: “Good game. You’ve been good. Congratulations for the exhibition. You’re a top player.”
But none of the newspapers encourage a move to Liverpool, especially after Klopp ruled out the transfer during the press conference.
O Jogo says it’s Manchester United who are still about to bid between €55m and €60m for the midfielder. It’s claimed his agent is in England and in contact with the Red Devils.
But Record brings a different slant, saying Bruno Fernandes’ stay at Sporting is becoming a more likely possibility, since none of the clubs are ready to pay the €70m demanded by club president Frederico Varandas.
