If you take a look at the Portuguese newspapers today, all of them will have a story about Nuno Espírito Santo and Everton.
But the interesting thing is that, despite normally having sources close to their managers, they are still in the dark regarding this approach.
All the outlets have been crediting the English press before reporting the news, and they don’t even give an opinion on Nuno’s chance to take charge of a Premier League club.
Previously, Nuno links, and stories about Wolves transfers, have been broken by the Portuguese media, so it’s odd for them to be in the dark. It’s even stranger when it’s considered that Mendes stories also find a way out in the Portuguese press first, more often than not.
But there’s another country keeping an eye on the situation, which is Spain. The manager had a spell at Valencia between 2014 and 2015, so the local media have some interest in the subject.
Superdeporte doesn’t make it clear if the info is their own or not, but without giving any credits to other outlets, they claim that the player has ‘turned down’ the offer to replace Ronald Koeman.
It’s said that Nuno is ‘too compromised’ to leave Wolves, and as things are going well, he doesn’t fancy the move right now.
Everton’s offer is still described by the website as ‘very tempting’ for the Portuguese boss, but Wolves form, the fans’ support and Jorge Mendes’ relationship with the club made him chose to stay.
Wolves, Nuno, Mendes and the club’s owners are a very tangled web indeed, it would take a lot of work for Everton to untangle that.
