It seems that Portuguese side Benfica haven’t given up on signing Matteo Darmian from Manchester United yet.

With the latest news from England saying the player has asked to leave Old Trafford, the Lisbon media takes it as good news for the Eagles today.

Outlet A Bola points out that this request could make things easier for Benfica, who have been following Darmian for a couple of months now.

They claim that the player could help the Eagles in all defensive positions, including in centre-back, although we’ve rarely seen him play there for Manchester United.

A Bola points out that Italian sides such as Inter Milan, Napoli and Juventus have all said to be interested in the player as well, but they don’t make it clear if Benfica would be as well positioned as these sides in the race.

Despite being on the verge of an exit, Darmian played 90 minutes in Man United’s win against Leicester City last Friday.
