On Tuesday, we’ve covered a short article from O Jogo which said the Porto midfielder Sergio Oliveira was being followed by Southampton. The player, who’s recently been sent to train with the reserve squad, would be an easy target for the winter market.

Later on, The Sun came up with an exclusive story saying Southampton made an approach for the 24-year-old. And they said the Portuguese side would let the player go for only £4m.

Now we go back to Portugal, where O Jogo are saying that Southampton made a bid for Oliveira. The Premier League club would like to beat all the competition by offering €4.6m.

O Jogo, which is a paper from the North, and therefore always have good sources at Porto, claims they’ve learned this information on their own.

By now, you’ve probably done the maths and know that £4m and €4.6m are the same thing. So either The Sun and O Jogo are completely right or completely wrong together. Let’s see what comes next.

We’d suggest the situation is more like this: O Jogo made the first claim, we covered it, The Sun took a punt, and O Jogo have taken that as confirmation of their own original claims.

Got to love the rumour mill.
