West Brom have reportedly tried to join the battle with Tottenham Hotspur for Adrien Silva, but the player’s response wasn’t good.

As reported by Diário de Notícias on Thursday, the problem was the Sporting midfielder doesn’t want to join the Baggies. As described by the Portuguese newspaper, he doesn’t want a move to a ‘mid-table club’.

Adrien Silva is likely to leave Sporting this summer for a fee of €30m, and the word in Portugal is that Tottenham are very close to paying that. The very same Diário says the player has already accepted the transfer to the London side.

This is not the first time West Brom have failed to sign a Sporting midfielder. In the last summer window, they attempted to buy William Carvalho, but the offer wasn’t good enough for Sporting to accept.

Tony Pulis has since confirmed that West Brom continued to hold an interest in the player.

However, money isn’t the problem this time, it’s the player who is not convinced. The question is: if he hadn’t the chance to join Tottenham, would he still turn West Brom down?

The Portuguese press are insistent Tottenham are trying to sign Adrien, but there’s always been some doubt around the story, maybe West Brom will get a clearer run at Adrien soon.
