‘Mourinho doesn’t like Sporting’.
That’s the headline for a column written by Record journalist Rui Calafate today, as he analyses the transfer of Gedson Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur.
The writer admits he’s chosen a controversial headline only to draw the attention from the readers, and then points out his admiration for the manager, probably because he knows Mourinho isn’t a guy to pick a fight with.
But what Calafate has to say is that the Special One doesn’t like buying from Sporting. Since leaving Portugal, Mourinho signed players from the country, from Porto, Benfica and even Penafiel, but never from the Lions.
The journalist claims that when José Mourinho joined Spurs and the Portuguese press said it would be a boost for the club’s chase for Bruno Fernandes, he said the manager wouldn’t sign the midfielder.
Referring to Gedson Fernades, Calafate points out a ‘substitute from Luz’ is being signed instead of Bruno. And finishes by saying: “One day Mourinho will be aware that he made a mistake and missed an opportunity. And maybe he could give Sporting his hand.”
This seems like internal Portugal drama, but then it strange Mourinho has never gone shopping at Sporting, especially considering all the players he’s signed from Benfica.
