The Portuguese media aren’t very confident that Aston Villa will be able to sign Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

On Tuesday, A Bola had an article asking what linked the player to the English club, after a betting website had Villa with the fourth shortest odds.

CapturarWell it had been A Bola who linked Villa and Lindelof, when they said the Championship side were scouting the defender last month.

Anyway, they’re not the only ones who find this transfer possibility hard to fathom. O Jogo are reporting it today in a very short column, saying Villa have joined the list of “unlikely destinations” for the player.

Their story is also based on betting odds, which is why it’s not deemed worthy of the usual full page splash, as they normally do when an English club wants a Benfica player.

Victor Lindelof has been linked to numerous clubs in the past few months, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Middlesbrough, Celtic, PSG and Inter Milan.

The defender is reportedly in negotiations for a new contract which will raise his release clause, as he could leave the Portuguese side for only €30m, his current buyout amount.

It’s interesting that the Bet Victor odds for a January Lindelof transfer, which were made into an article by HITC, don’t include an option to stay at Benfica, which right now is the most likely outcome. Shame, we would have had a wager.
