It was not with much belief that the Portuguese press took claims Danilo could return to Porto on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The rumour started in England on Wednesday, saying the player would be unhappy with the little game time under Pep Guardiola and looking for a new club in the January window.
But the papers from Portugal are not giving it much attention. No matter if the report is their own or not, they usually make a big deal out of interesting speculation, which is not the case here.
In a short note today, O Jogo shows that it doesn’t make much sense for Danilo to return to his old club now.
The first reason for the signing to be ‘complicated’ is because Porto already have many options for the position. And that is very true.
After returning from a loan in France, Ricardo Pereira is excelling, a reason why he’s been linked to Premier League clubs. And Maxi Pereira is doing a decent job when needed, already with eight appearances this season.
There’s also the fact that Porto can’t afford Danilo’s current wages, so Manchester City would have to keep paying a chunk.
This sounds very unlikely indeed, since Porto don’t have any reason to make all these efforts. And this story seems weird from the beggining, anyway. Danilo has 14 appearances this season, so it’s not like he’s been totally ignored by Pep Guardiola. It doesn’t make any sense that he would rebel against the club so early after being signed.
