On Monday, the Portuguese press continues to sound pretty optimistic about Luís Castro’s move to take charge of Reading.
Vitória Guimarães beat Rio Ave in the Primeira Liga 3-2 on Sunday, and in the match report today, outlets like Correio da Manhã have a headline saying ‘Luís Castro wins in his farewell from Vitória’.
The manager was obviously asked about the move after the game, and again claimed that he should speak on the matter on Monday afternoon.
“At this moment, I, the administration and the supporters are restless. Tomorrow [Monday], I will speak,” said the manager (via Record).
“There would be no point in making any statement on the subject without sitting down with the administration and my family and talking. I pulled the game with Rio Ave to the front of everything that was happening.
“It was with great enthusiasm that I, the players, the structure and the crowd focused on the game with Rio Ave. It didn’t make any sense to deviate from that focus. Now, let’s savuor the victory a little. Tomorrow [Monday], we’re back to work, because solving a problem like that is working too.”
On Sunday morning, the local press claimed that Reading officials were still in Portugal to trigger Luís Castro’s release clause with Vitória.
So we keep waiting for the moment when he’ll finally speak on the chance to join the Championship side. For the way he’s acting now, it surely sounds like he has something important to say.
