Following the announcement of Nuno Espírito Santo’s departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Portuguese media has been quite busy covering everything about the move.
A report from O Jogo first claimed that former Benfica boss Bruno Lage is the ‘priority option’ to take charge of the Molineux side, and the information is backed up by TVI24’s Mais Bastidores as well.
Now it turns out that the TV show also brings an update on another manager who’s been linked to the Wolves job, which is Porto coach Sérgio Conceição.
Journalist Nuno Dias mentions that some reports have been naming Conceição in the race for the position, and claims TVI24 should soon get more information on his situation. But for now, he’s learned that for financial reasons, the Dragons’ boss is ‘eventually ruled out’ by Wolves.
He says it’s ‘not that he doesn’t please Wolves’, but money would be an issue. The manager has his future uncertain, as despite being in charge of Porto, he’s been linked to the likes of Lazio and Porto.
Nuno Dias adds that Bruno Lage is now a ‘strong possibility’ to take charge of Wolves, and his move to England would count on the help of Jorge Mendes, who works as his agent and of course has strong bonds with the Premier League side.
In the same show, journalist Bruno Andrade points out that Lage has been declining offers since leaving Benfica last summer, as he and Jorge Mendes both knew the path for the Wolves job would soon be clear.
