Last Sunday, Correio da Manhã newspaper had one more claim saying Sporting would be interested in bringing Islam Slimani back to the club. They wouldn’t spend a huge amount of money on a deal with Leicester City, but would still like him to be a backup, or even a partner, to Dutch striker Bas Dost.
Dost, in turn, has been linked to Newcastle United lately. And apparently, an Algerian outlet has recently linked one thing to the other. It was claimed that Slimani would replace Dost in case the Dutchman signs for Newcastle, so A Bola took a sledgehammer to it today.
They say they know that Sporting are not considering signing Slimani, and Bas Dost is not leaving for Newcastle.
It’s understandable if Rafael Benitez wants to sign him for Newcastle, but Dost is happy where he is, and Sporting don’t want to sell.
Things will remain as they are, Sporting don’t want Slimani from Leicester either.
It’s strange to see a newspaper which normally feeds these stories denying all of it, so they are probably pretty sure of what they’re saying.
