Back when Vitinha was loaned to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020, there was big certainty in Portugal that the Premier League side would use their buying option over him.
Until the last moment that the local media waited for the Molineux side to trigger the purchase clause, which they didn’t, and the midfielder ended up returning to Porto.
It turns out that Vitinha has been showing some great form for the Dragons since then, and the club are now actually glad that his exit wasn’t made permanent.
To speak about his form today, newspaper A Bola invited former Porto, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Deco, as people have been pointing out there’s a similarity in their game. And the retired player, who’s now an agent, is also happy that Wolves never made the purchase.
“Do the fans say that Vitinha has a way of playing like I did? Personally, I don’t like comparisons, as all players have their potential and their way of seeing football. In this specific case, I see a true crack, a player with enormous potential, who is already one of the references of the team,” Deco told A Bola.
“Happy the hour when Wolverhampton did not exercise the right of option to buy him! FC Porto clearly gained from this and gained an asset in its squad.”
For those who think Vitinha’s improvement happened in England, Deco pointed out it’s actually Porto manager Sérgio Conceição who is responsible for it.
“Those who work with Sérgio Conceição only learn and gain more resources, whether technical or tactical. There are several examples of this and Vitinha is one of them. The spell in England was undoubtedly important, but this current Vitinha has a lot of work from Sérgio Conceição. Looking forward to a bright future for him, we can notice that he’s clearly having a good time and is happy to play often in the club of his heart.”
