Pretty much since he arrived at Leicester City, we’ve seen Islam Slimani being linked with a return to Portugal.

Most stories used to say that it’s Sporting who’d be interested in taking him back, even though he’s now seen as an expensive player for them.

There’s finally something different coming from the Portuguese press today, as Slimani is now said to be a target for the Lions’ rivals Benfica.

Jorge Jesus is taking charge of the Eagles this summer, and since he managed the striker at Sporting, he’d like to have him by his side once again, according to A Bola.

The newspaper says the manager is only suggesting the first signings for now, so there are no approaches or negotiations at this stage.

Even though Sporting included an anti-rival clause in the deal with Leicester City, Benfica’s lawyers consider this to be illegal, and could fight it in court if necessary.

Signed by the Foxes in 2016, Slimani has a contract with the club until 2022. He’s just returned from a loan at Monaco.
