Arsenal’s interest in Alex Grimaldo from Benfica is also reported by the Portuguese media this Friday.

After claims from the Catalan media, it’s now newspaper Correio da Manhã who says the Gunners have joined the race for the left-back.

As you can see in the screenshot below, there’s not much more the outlet says, claiming the London side should now compete with Atletico Madrid for the player.

It’s also recalled that Alex Grimaldo is currently protected by a €60m release clause at Benfica, but it’s not said if the Eagles will use that amount as a reference for any summer negotiations.

The former Barcelona player has been linked with a move out of Benfica for a few years now, and it’s actually impressive his name wasn’t much involved in the rumour mill during the January transfer market.

With such a short update coming from Correio da Manhã, we wonder if they really have the information or if they were just taking it from Mundo Deportivo. That we should know in case there’s a bigger story coming in the next few days.

According to the WhoScore rankings, Grimaldo is Benfica’s second best player so far this season, which is quite impressive given the competition.
