Scottish side Aberdeen have made an offer to sign Ryan Gauld from Sporting, according to the Portuguese press this Thursday.

Newspaper O Jogo claims that the player is not in the Lions’ plans for the season, and Derek McInnes’ side are looking to have him on a one-year spell.

Gauld himself would like to return to Scotland, and that’s why Aberdeen are currently leading the race for him.

Other clubs such as Farense and Leixões are also interested in a loan deal, but that would only happen in case Sporting’s negotiations with the Scottish side collapse.

Newspaper A Bola also has a story about it today. Although they don’t say that an official offer has been made, they do claim that Aberdeen have told Sporting they would like to sign the player on loan.

Regarding the competition, A Bola says it’s actually Farense who are well positioned to sign the player. But the situation is the same: he’s only staying in Portugal in case the talks for a move to the Scottish Premiership club don’t succeed.

Gauld signed for Sporting in a €2.75m move from Dundee United back in 2014. He’s only made five appearances for the club, and had loan spells at other Portuguese sides such as Vitória de Setúbal and Aves.
