Sky Sports run an article on Monday morning headlined: ‘Paul Pogba prepares to fly to England to complete Man Utd transfer’
That’s quite misleading, given the only reference to flying in their article is: ‘Pogba was due to return to Miami after his weekend in Sin City, however it remains to be seen whether he then travels to Turin or flies straight to Manchester from the United States.’
Sky are clear that they have no idea where Pogba is flying to after his holiday, but it’s their other claims which hold more weight.
The article is written by Andy Burton, who was very cosy with Jose Mourinho during the manager’s pursuit of the Old Trafford job. Over the weekend Sky sent Burton to Las Vegas to speak to Pogba, but all he got was an “we’ll see”, and a nice top up of his tan.
It’s Burton’s claims about information from Old Trafford which are most interesting, given his Mourinho connections, and he explained: ‘However, sources at Old Trafford told Sky Sports News HQ late on Sunday night that the deal is now virtually agreed in principle between the two clubs, with personal terms also close to being confirmed between the player and Manchester United.
Yet the finer details of both aspects of the transfer – including payment of Raiola’s fee – are yet to be resolved, with negotiations set to continue this week.’
That would take everything a step backward, and make an announcement not as imminent as had been suggested elsewhere.
