According to The Daily Mirror, Tottenham are looking to sell Georges-Kevin N’Koudou during the summer transfer window. N’Koudou was the subject of a long and very drawn out transfer from Marseille last summer, which saw him spends several weeks living in a London hotel.
With just 49 minutes of Premier League football this season, spread over 8 appearances, it would be no surprise if N’Koudou was keen to leave, but he isn’t.
‘Mauricio Pochettino has run out of patience and is ready to recoup funds’ say The Mirror, but, should that be true, N’Koudou sees things very differently.
In a great interview the player granted to L’Equipe earlier this month, the Tottenham fringe player was refreshingly honest about his situation but showed a real determination to make things different for next season.
Speaking to the French newspaper about his difficult start to Tottenham life, N’Koudou explained: “I was the problem. Of course it was difficult not to play, especially for someone like me who loves football, but there comes a time when you need to stop making excuses. I spoke about it with my family. I learnt what I was missing. I wasn’t strong enough mentally.
“I was nearly like a child, in a cocoon. I had it easy. I found a lot of answers here, especially thanks to Moussa Dembélé, who told me: “You have the talent, you have everything, but you need to work hard here”. When I dribble past someone, he didn’t cheer, but when I pressed hard, he would tell me “That’s it, that’s good!”
“And when the best player you’ve played with, a guy who has everything, both feet, the physicality, the technique, tells you that, you listen. After that, a lot of people helped me: Rose, Walker, Kane and others. And my two big brothers Moussa Sissoko and Hugo Lloris.”
N’Koudou believes that if he fights his way into Pochettino’s plans then he even has an outside chance of going to the World Cup. And when the 22 year old was asked, straight out, if he’ll be at Spurs next season, N’Koudou said: “I want to impose myself, yes. I know I can.”
