Georginio Wijnaldum will hope Wednesday evening will turn his PSG fortunes around.

Since ditching Liverpool, snubbing Barcelona, and taking the contract on offer in Paris, the midfielder has struggled for the prominence he expected under Mauricio Pochettino, and hasn’t been afraid to speak about that publicly.

Two goals in a 2-2 Champions League draw against RB Leipzig will convince him further that he should be starting regularly. Wijnaldum’s assumption has likely been at least partly to do with Pochettino trying to sign him for Tottenham.

L’Equipe report the manager tried to take the player to Tottenham ‘several times’, and despite the Argentine clearly rating the Dutchman, Spurs weren’t able to build a deal to get him to them.

Wijnaldum has previously confirmed Pochettino tried to take him to Tottenham in 2016, but it’s not clear when the other Spurs attempts were made.
