Tottenham’s coaching staff had a big day out on Sunday, a big Spanish day out.
Mundo Deportivo report Mauricio Pochettino, Toni Jiménez, Jesús Pérez and Miguel d’Agostino were all in a box at Espanyol to watch the match against Athletic Club Bilbao.
It was a 1-1 draw with several good performances, and Pochettino had a chance to see Pau Lopez in action.
The young goalkeeper spent last season on loan at Tottenham and the move was supposed to be made permanent in the summer but Spurs and Espanyol were far apart on price.
Since then Pau has made the Espanyol starting spot his own and is enjoying a good season. With his contract running out in June and still no renewal, and no sign one is close, Pau could make an excellent free signing for someone in the summer.
Tottenham signed Paulo Gazzaniga to be their third choice and it can’t be ruled out that he stays at that level and Pau is brought in to replace Michel Vorm, that’s if the Spaniard would now accept being second choice.
Poch and his coaching team have good connections at Espanyol having worked there, with the Spurs manager also being a playing favourite.
