Looking for an update on Pau Lopez to Tottenham Hotspur in the Spanish media, and failing, we perhaps found something rather more interesting.

On Wednesday evening, Pau represented Espanyol in a friendly at St Mary’s. The score was 1-1, and Catalan newspaper Sport raved about the young goalkeeper’s performance.

Sport say Pau made a series of outstanding saves to keep the scoreline level, they go on to say he excelled in various actions, including a save from Dusan Tadic.

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in the player is said to be led by Mauricio Pochettino, who knows Pau’s ability well. A €2m offer has been submitted, but that’s not enough for Espanyol. The relations remain very cordial, with lots of Pochettino goodwill, and talks continue.

It’s easy to believe that Tottenham had someone watch Pau against Southampton, both clubs formerly managed by Pochettino. The 21 year old having such an impressive game can only help, and probably further underlines that he’s worth more than €2m.

Called up this year for his first participation in a senior Spain squad, it may well be a shame for Spurs to sign him and Pau to stagnate through lack of games.

Maybe a deal can be found, with a higher fee than €2m, which allows Spurs to secure the player, but also for him to continue at Espanyol for the next season at least.
