Catalan newspaper Sport have an entertaining article this weekend on Mauricio Pochettino, and what the Tottenham manager has really been angling towards for much of his career.

In the Catalan sport media, it’s generally seen that people have two stances: Pro Barcelona or Pro Real Madrid, and one automatically lends itself to a hate of the other.

Therefore, Pochettino’s repeated comments that he doesn’t want to manage Barcelona, have been taken as a sign that he instead really wants to manage Real Madrid, and that’s what it’s all about.

Forget that Pochettino just wants to remain loyal to his old Espanyol fans, that doesn’t fit the narrative.

Sport say ‘Pochettino approaches his dream’ and state ‘the Argentine has never hidden his goal is to manage Real Madrid’, and Zidane’s recent struggles provide an opportunity.

The Catalan newspaper continued: ‘”I couldn’t train Barcelona,” said Pochettino on the eve of the game played at the Bernabéu (1- 1), a nod to Madrid because the Argentine has never hidden that one of his dreams is to train the white team one day.’

Bizarre isn’t it.

Meanwhile, Pochettino just continues managing Tottenham in the Premier League, probably conscious he’s already part of the Barca/Madrid media nonsense.
