Last week Barcelona announced Eric Abidal would be their new director of football and Ramon Plans would be assisting him. Planes left his position as DoF at Getafe in order to help Abidal in his new role.

He’d held a similar role at White Hart Lane in the 2014-2015 season, and Mundo Deportivo believe he’s very friendly with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

That’s handy for the Catalan newspaper as they make attempts to continue the Rafinha to Tottenham Hotspur rumour.

Sport, another Catalan paper, started the claims in their Monday edition, and then went on to ponder whether Rafinha could be used as a bargaining chip to sign Christian Eriksen, something they didn’t seem so convinced of themselves.

Tottenham being brought into the rumour seemed to be part of a measure to pressure Inter Milan to get a move on with their own attempt, but the Spurs claims aren’t going anywhere yet.

The suggestion is the Pochettino-Planes friendship would help Tottenham get the signing over the line.

Interest would have to be real for that, and Mundo Deportivo make the situation clear by saying: ‘Barça doesn’t wait for another Inter offer to arrive and is already moving in the Italian and English market’.

Barcelona are actively working to sell the player, so if anything happens, it may be likelier for Planes to contact Pochettino rather than the reverse.
