In April of this year, Valencia regional newspaper Super Deporte reported Tottenham were planning to sign Rafa Mir and then loan him out immediately.
Now 20 years of age, Mir has been seen as one of the best talents in Valencia’s youth set-up, and after failing to renew his contract with the side, a switch to Real Madrid has repeatedly been talked up.
Earlier this month Sport Witness covered claims from Spain of Valencia acting like Mir was as good as gone, not counting on him any longer and getting prepared for the player’s exit. That of course gave Tottenham a chance to swoop in and act on their previous serious interest.
Since then the Mir exit story has been talked up and down, and AS on Wednesday do the former. Mir is ‘very close’ to signing for Real Madrid and joining their second string side, but offers from England are also referenced.
AS don’t mention Tottenham, indeed they don’t mention any English club, just that offers have arrived from England. Given the history of the story, Spurs would be the likeliest candidates.
This all again gives Mauricio Pochettino a chance to step in and get the player, if he can offer a more believable route to the first team.
Tottenham would easily compete on wages, and Mir would be a signing the club could hope for a huge value increase on in the coming years.
