“It would be a pleasure” – Swansea striker open to finishing career at former club

Currently on loan at Marseille in France, the likelihood of Bafétimbi Gomis returning to Swansea in order to be a first-team player is very slim.

Despite impressing with the Ligue 1 club so far this season, the 31-year-old struggled in the Premier League with the Welsh club, and there was a reason why he was sent back to France in the first place.

With seven goals and three assists in 15 appearances for Rudi Garcia’s side so far this season, the former France international has shown he still has what it takes to be a threat in Ligue 1, and he could very well finish his career there.

His contract with the Premier league running out in 2018, Swansea wouldn’t ask for too much money, which could make him affordable for, let’s say, his former club AS Saint-Etienne, a move the player wouldn’t be against.

Speaking to But! in France, he said: “You never know what can happen in life. Now, if I can come back and bring experience, my know-how to a club that gave me so much, it would be a pleasure. Today, it’s not possible. I’m at Marseille.

“After that, I’m a Saint-Etienne fan. I follow them in the Europa League and I’m always there sending texts and talking with the people in charge. As they say: ‘Once a Green, always Green…”

Gomis spent eight years at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard (including his time at the club’s academy), making 158 appearances, scoring 49 goals and assisting his teammates 17 times.
