Youri Tielemans appears to be “on the right track” to getting back to his best at Aston Villa, having impressed for Belgium in their 1-0 win over Serbia on Wednesday.
That’s according to Marc Degryse and Philippe Albert, who have praised the Aston Villa man for his performance in the 1-0 victory.
Tielemans has endured a difficult few months at Villa Park since joining Aston Villa on a free transfer from Leicester City in the summer.
He had hoped to kick on under Unai Emery’s guidance but has instead found himself on the outside looking in for most of this season as the Spanish boss has preferred other options in his midfield.
He’s featured in just 26% of the available minutes in the Premier League this season, featuring more in the cup competitions, where his performances have not been enough to convince Emery to hand him more of a starring role as yet.
That has changed in recent weeks, with a particularly impressive performance in the 3-1 win over Fulham before the international break and earning him rave reviews.
He was urged to prove himself on international duty as a result, something he appears to have done, with his display in the 1-0 win on Wednesday and earning praise from Degryse and Albert, who believe he may be on the way to getting back to his best.
“You notice that he is starting to feel better at Aston Villa. This is the Youri Tielemans that I want to see at the Red Devils,” said Degryse, in comments relayed by Voetbal Nieuws.
“I was pleasantly surprised,” added Albert.
“His passing, especially at Openda, was of a quality that we had rarely seen from him in the past two years. The very best Tielemans is certainly not back yet, but he is still on the right track.”
