Chelsea continue to be named as Rafael Leão’s suitor even after AC Milan turned down their approach in the summer transfer window.

The Portugal international’s current deal runs down in 2024 and the Serie A winners want to secure his long-term future as soon as possible.

That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who state the forward’s lawyer held a meeting with his employer on Tuesday. The Rossoneri will need more meetings to find an agreement for his renewal.

Stefano Pioli’s side, for now, are under pressure since there are several clubs in the mix to sign the star. Chelsea get a mention as they are the ‘most vigilant’ side, along with Paris Saint-Germain.

In the event the Italian champions fail to find an agreement with the player’s camp, they ‘cannot sell him for less than’ €100m.

Sky Italia also discuss the lawyer’s meeting with Milan on Tuesday. Leão’s salary demands are ‘very high’, and this is ‘conditioned by the interest’ of Chelsea and PSG.

The attacker wants €6-7m per year, which is three times what he is currently earning at the San Siro. This may not be an issue for the Blues and PSG, who have been ‘wooing him for some time’.

Milan’s desire is to tie down the player to a new deal before the World Cup and they are ready to make an important offer. They believe the negotiations can be difficult if he impresses in Qatar, considering there is interest from top clubs, ‘Chelsea and PSG above all’.

Sky state Milan could make an exception and break their salary ceiling to offer Leão a new deal. They need to act fast to secure the star’s long-term future since Chelsea, PSG and other clubs are trying to sign him.
