Maybe Benfica will end up regreting not selling Bruno Varela to Nottingham Forest this summer.
Linked to the Championship side for months, the goalkeeper has always knew his situation at the Lisbon club was indefinite, as it would be unlikely for him to fight for the number one position.
Now that the season has started, Varela sees himself as the squad’s third goalkeeper, and as reported by Record today, he’s looking forward to leave.
Benfica have already been told about his wish, and would have received ‘several’ offers for him, but the thing is that Nottingham Forest are the club who keep being mentioned in every single story.
Record writes today that Forest ‘were one of the clubs’ who made a bid for Varela, but the Eagles rejected the approach and ‘the situation got frozen’.
Now with the English transfer window closed for permanent transfers, maybe the Eagles will have to work a little harder to solve the player’s dissatisfaction, because Record doesn’t point out any other possible destination for him.
But as loan deals are still allowed for Championship clubs, perhaps this is could be a solution to suit all parties.
