Timo Werner once again gets his own section in SportBild this week.
The German magazine believes a summer transfer is ‘likely’ for the RB Leipzig player, and speculation continues over where he’ll go. It’s claimed he’d prefer a move to Liverpool, yet despite the German media flirting with the Reds on his behalf for a year, there doesn’t seem to be a lot happening right now in that regard.
Manchester United and Chelsea have also been repeatedly linked, and the same happens today. The clubs managed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Frank Lampard are said to be interested, but again there isn’t any suggestion that either of them have made moves on the transfer.
Werner will be available for €55-60m in the summer, thanks to a clause his agents negotiated in the RB Leipzig contract. Therefore, it would be a case of negotiating with those representatives.
This week’s edition of SportBild doesn’t say that either Manchester United or Chelsea have taken steps to do that.
Solskjaer doesn’t desperately need to spend such an amount on a striker now. Odion Ighalo has impressed since his arrival, and Marcus Rashford will return from injury in the coming months.
Chelsea will likely have more room, especially given Olivier Giroud’s contract expires in the summer.
Timo Werner won’t have the possibility of impressing at Euro 2021 and attracting further interest, given the tournament has been suspended for a year.
