Ron-Robert Zieler has been speaking to German magazine Kicker for their edition this week. He touched upon going back to ‘special’ Old Trafford to face Manchester United at the weekend, and is clearly looking forward to the occasion.
Zieler was part of the youth set-up at Manchester United, but never managed to make the breakthrough to the senior team. T
he German goalkeeper surprised many by choosing to join Leicester City in the summer, given that the club already had an established first choice goalkeeper in Kasper Schmeichel.
The 27 year old former Hannover goalkeeper was well aware of what situation he was walking into, and told Kicker: “It was clear that Kasper Schmeichel at beginning of the season has advantages after the championship. I just have to be ready when they need me.”
Kicker asked Zieler about other transfer approaches, from La Liga and the Bundesliga: “In the summer there were several options. After Spain, also in the Bundesliga. Leicester was a spontaneous chance and a major challenge.”
