On July 26th, Mundo Deportivo reported Lyon are ‘best positioned’ to battle with Everton for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina.
Sport now claim the 23-year-old could be heading to a ‘surprise destination’ which might be Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho wanted to strengthen his defence for the next season. Leicester City defender Harry Maguire has emerged as a target for the Red Devils.
However, the Foxes are demanding €90m for the England international and therefore, for Sport, the agreement is ‘impossible’.
The situation has forced the 20-time English champions to look elsewhere and are now focusing on the La Liga defender. According to Sport, Manchester United have telephoned Barca’s offices to make the club aware of their interest.
Barceloa value their player around €40m and so far, there has been no offer from United for Mina yet. The Old Trafford club have asked for time so that they can ‘formalise the proposal’, while Everton have not had their last word.
Mina’s move away from Camp Nou could be closed next week and the report says the player ‘will go to England’. Also, Barcelona will not include a buy-back clause when the sanction the defender’s transfer.
The Catalan claims of Manchester United interest in Mina this week had all been twisted from an earlier RMC report which stated the club could join the race. Sport add a lot more today and it remains to be seen if that’s creative licence or if Mourinho is really moving to sign the Colombian.
