On the face of it, Benjamin Pavard looks like a great option for Tottenham.
The 22 year old has plenty of time to improve and is very flexible in his position, able to play in central defence, midfield, and also at right back.
With Toby Alderweireld potentially leaving the club this summer and Jan Vertonghen not getting any younger, Pavard looks prime for a swoop. And given that he plays for VfB Stuttgart, a move to Spurs could look quite attractive.
But there’s a Bayern Munich shaped problem. The German club are interested, with Bild naming both Bayern and Tottenham on Tuesday, and have a habit of snatching the best Bundesliga deals available.
Next summer Pavard has a €35m release clause and Bayern are happy to let him gain another year of experience and then take advantage of the lower fee.
It would be a hugely attractive move for the player, and Bild say he’s ‘right at the top of the wish-list’ for Bayern’s 2019 summer window.
Stuttgart want him to stay another year, Bayern seem quite happy with that, and Bild say the only way something changes is if a club offers €60m or more.
