Mateo Kovacic is one of the footballers most caught up in Chelsea’s potential transfer ban.
As it stands, the Blues are banned from registering players in the next two transfer windows. Their application to FIFA to have the ban put aside whilst they appeal was rejected, something Chelsea said they were ‘astonished’ about.
Now Kovacic has to wait and see what the Court of Arbitration for Sport decide over delaying the ban for an appeal, because if they refuse then there’s no prospect of a Chelsea stay beyond the end of this season.
In their Thursday edition, Marca say the midfielder has found what he was looking for when leaving Real Madrid. His ‘idea’ and ‘priority’ is to sign for Chelsea for at least another season, but the ban means it hangs in the balance.
Regardless, it’s stated the player intends to continue in the Premier League, even if he’s forced to move from Stamford Bridge. Therefore, it’s handy that Marca say ‘several’ teams from England’s top flight have ‘already shown their interest’.
Mateo Kovacic has 29 starts for Chelsea so far this season, and a further 10 substitute appearances.
