In January 2018, Chelsea signed Olivier Giroud from Arsenal and handed the striker 18 months of contract at Stamford Bridge.

The France international’s deal with the Blues will expire in the summer, but he has an option to further extend it by a year.

Maurizio Sarri has preferred Alvaro Morata as his first-choice player to lead the attack in the first half of the season and given his move to Atletico Madrid, the west London club signed Gonzalo Higuain last month.

The former Napoli manager now prefers the Argentine frontman ahead of the World Cup winner, and Giroud has made only six starts in the Premier League this term.

Despite the current situation, Le10 Sport in France claim the 32-year-old’s ‘priority’ is to continue at Stamford Bridge for one more season.

If the talks over a new deal between Giroud and Chelsea do not materialise, then the attacker would prefer to make a switch to Major League Soccer because playing in the US attracts the player.

A return to Ligue 1 is not excluded, but it is far from Giroud’s list of priorities as of now.
