Mislav Oršić could find his contract frozen by Trabzonspor, just weeks after joining the Turkish club from Southampton.

That’s according to Haber Turk, who say the striker’s contract ‘may be frozen’ as he battles back from an ACL injury.

Oršić completed a move to the Turkish side from Southampton earlier this month after a disastrous spell with the Saints following a move in the January transfer window.

He had joined Southampton that month to bolster their forward line but barely featured under Nathan Jones or Ruben Selles before the end of the season.

That led to his departure to Trabzonspor, where he had been hoping to bounce back and get his career back on track.

That hope was handed a major blow yesterday when he was injured in training, with a subsequent MRI scan revealing an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee.

That serious injury has shocked Trabzonspor’s management, with the player now expected to spend at least nine months on the treatment table.

The club’s board of directors are keeping a close eye on the situation and how surgery, which will be performed today, goes before making a decision on him.

One possible idea being floated is that they freeze his contract, which is worth €1.6m for the first two years, so that they can then use the money to bring in a replacement.

They’re considering all their options to deal with the problem as the decision to buy Oršić from Southampton grows into a huge disaster.
