Chelsea are still in talks with Sevilla for Jules Koundé after their first proposal was turned down by the Andalusian club, according to ABC Sevilla.
The Premier League side’s intention is to reach an agreement soon that satisfies all parties involved.
The 23-year-old is looking to leave the La Liga side for a club with higher aspirations and the Blues fit the bill. The west London club want to further bolster their defence, while Julen Lopetegui’s side are open to offloading the centre-back this summer.
For all these reasons, the report states the ‘negotiation seems destined to be closed’ at the moment. Chelsea are set to make an improved offer in excess of €60m plus variables for the France international.
Barcelona have been credited with interest in Koundé, but Sevilla are of the belief they cannot meet their demands after carrying out other deals so far in the window. In addition to this, Los Nervionenses are not interested in a player-plus-cash deal.
Therefore, the report states the negotiations with Chelsea will be ‘reactivated today’ and there’s a possibility the operation could be closed soon.
ABC Sevilla explain Thomas Tuchel’s side want the former Bordeaux man to join his new teammates next week, once Chelsea return to Europe after completing their pre-season tour in the United States.
The Spanish club are calm at the moment, but recognise the negotiation with Chelsea for Koundé is ‘getting closer and closer’. Sevilla are ‘convinced the operation will be closed’ with the Blues, once they raise their offer to sign the Frenchman.
