Perhaps the most expensive flop in Stoke City’s history, Giannelli Imbula is now without a club after he and the Championship agreed to mutually terminate his contract at the bet365 Stadium.
The midfielder had spent the first half of the season on loan from the Potters with Lecce in Serie A, but only managed four appearances during that time before being cast aside by the Italians and having his loan cancelled.
Shortly after, the decision to part ways with Stoke was taken, and the midfielder quickly set off to find himself a new club, with FC Sochi in Russia the likely winners of that race.
However, despite the club’s sporting director, Dmitry Rubashko, saying a deal was close, the player’s transfer, while still heading in the right direction, is currently on standby.
According to SportBox.ru, the player has ‘not yet arrived in Russia due to a delay in applying for a visa’.
Despite this setback, Imbula is still expected to sign for FC Sochi and should already be at the club’s disposal on February 28th as they prepare to face Arsenal Tula in the RPL on Sunday.
