Two days ago, we covered claims from Germany that Chelsea are the ‘only option’ for Timo Werner after Liverpool and other suitors ended their interest in the RB Leipzig star.
The Germany international has a release clause in excess of €50m and earlier reports indicated it’s valid until June 15th.
According to Bild, the forward’s clause is set at €53m and the last day to trigger it is on July 15th and not June 15th. This would give the Blues more time to complete his signing.
It’s explained the London club want to wait for the Premier League to restart and also see where they will finish in the table. Would it mean another club could snatch the attacker from Frank Lampard’s side? Bild says ‘No’.
That’s because Werner has ‘given his word’ to Chelsea and has already turned down the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
The report states his move to Stamford Bridge is ‘only a formality’, and Werner will sign a five-year contract worth €10m per season. This would make him the highest paid player at Chelsea.
Bild’s report makes it clear Chelsea have just over a month’s time to pay Werner’s €53m clause.
