Sevilla are determined to secure a replacement for Jules Koundé before sanctioning a departure to Chelsea this summer.
That’s according to AS and Diario de Sevilla, who cover the deal that could take the Frenchman to the Stamford Bridge this summer.
Chelsea are known to be keen on Koundé, who they tried to sign last summer, this year as they look to fill the hole in their defence created by the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
A deal has been presented as inevitable for the last fortnight, with it explained Sevilla are happy to sell and start again, particularly after selling Diego Carlos to Aston Villa.
A deal was being held up by Chelsea’s takeover, but that has now been sorted, and it was expected things would pick up quickly as a result.
AS certainly present the situation in that light, saying Koundé’s move to Stamford Bridge is ‘only a matter of time’ and the €60-65m transfer fee ‘should not be a problem’ for the Blues.
Diario de Sevilla back this up, stating that there is ‘peace of mind’ at Sevilla, who presume an offer is ‘being prepared’ by Chelsea. Indeed, their focus is on getting him sold sooner rather than later.
There is one caveat, though, with AS explaining that Sevilla chief Monchi ‘wants a replacement’ through the door before the Frenchman departs.
He is trying to move as quickly as possible to secure this player, although his preferred options are proving difficult to secure deals for.
That could hold up Koundé’s move to Chelsea somewhat, although there is confidence in all corners that it will go through at some point regardless.
