Edinson Cavani’s move from Manchester United to Boca Juniors is now ‘closer than ever’, according to reports from the Argentine media.
ESPN writes this is a ‘crucial time’ for the Buenos Aires side to land the striker, as club president Juan Roman Riquelme has been personally handling the negotiations.
Cavani’s contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the season, with an option to be extended for an extra year.
ESPN claims that the Red Devils wouldn’t only like him to trigger the option, but also to keep him at Old Trafford for a third season. The player, however, isn’t so sure about that.
“He has the option of staying in Manchester, where he feels very loved, but the option of returning to South America is very real today,” ESPN’s source also said.
The outlet adds that in case it’s Manchester United who decide to break the contract in the summer, they must pay the striker a fee. In case it’s the player who chooses to leave, then there’s nothing to stop him.
That’s something that hadn’t been commented on by the Argentine media before, and, if true, certainly puts Cavani in a position where he’s free to choose where he’s going to play next season.
