Max Wöber’s contract at Leeds United is one of the reasons he is unlikely to depart in the January transfer window.
That’s according to journalist Peter Linden on his official website, who says a move to RB Salzburg isn’t in the pipeline for the time being.
Wöber has been linked with a return to his former club since heading back to Leeds in the summer following a loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach.
He had spent the year in Germany and anticipated that the move would be made a permanent one, but Leeds’ transfer demands stopped that happening and he ended up back at Elland Road.
An injury in pre-season and a knee arthroscopy in September has limited his involvement under Daniel Farke this season and that’s led to talk about an exit in January.
Salzburg are believed to be interested in a reunion and given Red Bull own them and now have shares in Leeds, that could facilitate a deal between the two clubs.
Linden, though, reports this is not the case and the contract that Wöber currently has at Elland Road helping to change the defender’s mind on a possible exit.
“Although Red Bull has shares in Leeds, this will not reduce Wöber’s purchase price,” he stated.
“He himself is wondering whether promotion to the Premier League wouldn’t be a bigger challenge than returning to Salzburg. In addition, if he were promoted, his contract would automatically become even more lucrative than it already is.
“Leeds are currently one point behind league leaders Sheffield United in second place. It would be dangerous to put everything on the card of Wöber as the new defense chief (at Salzburg).”
