AS Roma defender Roger Ibañez has ended up on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City, if reports from Italy are to be believed.
On Thursday, the 22-year-old committed his long-term future to the Serie A side by signing a new contract until 2025.
Various claims have stated the centre-back has a release clause of €80m inserted in his new deal.
Calciomercato.it mention Spurs and the Foxes when providing further details of the Brazilian’s buyout clause.
The South American has clocked over 2000 minutes across 26 matches in all competitions for the Giallorossi this season.
The website states: ‘To the sound of good performances, the former Fluminense [man] in the summer attracted the attention of Leicester and Tottenham’.
However, the Roma management decided to bet strongly on his future by offering him a new deal.
According to the report, Ibañez’s release clause will be valid until ‘mid or late July’ and it cannot be activated in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
Calciomercato.it’s report doesn’t make it clear if both the north London club and Brendan Rodgers’ side looked at Ibañez last summer or for the next market.
Either way, with the player signing an extension that includes a €80m release clause, a potential move to Tottenham or Leicester at the end of this season is likely to be ruled out.
