Swansea City goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux’s father has raved about the player’s move to the club and believes the 30-year-old has a bright future ahead of him.
Vigoroux senior has been speaking to AS about his son as the Swansea man gears up for the international break with Chile.
It’s been a busy summer for Vigoroux, who joined Swansea in an undisclosed fee deal from Burnley.
It’s his latest move in a growing list of them in England, where he’s also played for Tottenham, Liverpool, Swindon Town, Waterford and Leyton Orient.
Only two of those spells have garnered any success, with 152 appearances for Leyton Orient and Swindon Town and only a handful of appearances for the rest of the clubs.
He’s yet to make his debut for the national side either despite being a part of squads in the past, sitting on the bench for five games in 2018 and 2019.
His father believes his move to Swansea could be the turning point, though, praising the move this summer and backing his son for a brighter future, particularly in the national team.
“It is a great achievement for him and the family. I have always wanted him to be in the National Team,” he said.
“He settled well in the club; he is the number one goalkeeper there and he is in one of the best leagues in the world. He barely signed, we all said, ‘now how can they not call him to La Roja’.
“If they didn’t call him now, they weren’t going to do it anymore… I always had faith that this was going to happen.
“The night before last I spoke with him and he told me that he was dead, because they had hit him hard (laughs), although he already has the rhythm here. He is happy.
“I told him one day that, because of the confidence with which I see him, he can be on any team. It is impossible for him not to succeed, one day he will be given the opportunity. Now no one can say anything about the team he is on.”
