Since not long after he arrived at Barcelona from Liverpool, Philippe Coutinho has been linked with a return to the Premier League.
It was quickly assumed the Blaugrana had vastly overpaid and that the Brazilian needed to be moved on. A loan to Bayern Munich went reasonably well but wasn’t made permanent, and in recent months it’s Newcastle United who have been linked the most.
There’s been repeat stories from the Catalan media, and last week Coutinho’s entourage got in touch with Mundo Deportivo to rule out a transfer in January. The player wants to continue the season where he is and has hopes that he can be a part of Xavi Hernandez’s project at the Camp Nou.
Therefore, Sunday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo covers English claims of a January move to Newcastle United being built, and they present the entourage’s stance.
And that stance is: “To this day Coutinho will not move from Barça in January.”
The 29-year-old started the match in Barcelona’s 1-0 defeat to Real Betis on Saturday, and was taken off in the second half.
He’s made 14 appearances so far this season, and was recalled to Brazil’s squad for the most recent international break.
