Despite surprising everyone by signing Fabinho from AS Monaco out of the blue early on this summer, Liverpool have yet to use their Brazilian star.
The 24-year-old played well in pre-season, but as soon as the official campaign started, the defensive midfielder found himself either on the bench or in the stands rather than on the pitch.
L’Equipe, who care about Fabinho after his time spent in the principality, have an article on his situation in their Monday edition, trying to find out what’s going on behind the scenes.
Jürgen Klopp’s examples of Andy Robertson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who sat out long periods in the early days of their Anfield careers, do reassure the French newspaper somewhat, as does the fact the player himself isn’t fretting about what’s happening just yet.
According to a source close to the player, Fabinho ‘isn’t worried’, ‘knew it would take time’ and is currently ‘working and adapting’ to ensure his manager uses him as quickly as possible.
As for where he’ll play, Klopp is said to have told the Brazilian he wouldn’t be using him as a right-back, but would rather have him in front of his defence as a number six.
Patience is a virtue and all that.
